Nutritional Benefits of Oysters

Seafood is widely regarded by medical experts and dieticians to be healthy and provide nutritional benefits not found in other meat sources. The nutritional benefits of oysters are well-documented.

Oysters are a low-calorie meat source with just 50 calories per 6 oysters while providing 6 grams of protein compared to just 1 gram of fat. Oysters provide an abundance of vitamin B12, which helps promote brain health, and helps to fight bone loss due to osteoporosis by providing vitamin D, copper, zinc, and manganese.

How to Eat Oysters

No Matter your oyster selection, our oysters come fresh and ready eat inside the shell. Be sure to add an oyster shucker to your purchase if you don’t have one at home.
When ready to eat your oysters:

1.) Remove from container and scrub with a hard-bristle brush to remove any built-up dirt and debris.
Submerge clean oysters in very cold water.

2.) On a cutting board (or any solid surface), wrap oyster flat-side-up in a kitchen towel and hold with non-dominant hand.

3.) Find hinge near the pointed end of the oyster and slip your shucker into the fissure. Wiggle the shucker blade in then twist to pry shell up.

4.) Separate the oyster from its shell by running knife around the top shell. It should separate with the oyster intact.

5.) Run blade under oyster to loosen and free it from the muscle and bottom half of shell.

6.) Repeat and Enjoy!!

Please be Aware: Consuming raw or undercooked shellfish may increase your risk of foodborne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions.

Fresh, quick, and large

These were the best oysters our family has had to date. They were delivered well packaged, fresh, and were much larger than we anticipated compared to what you normally receive at a restaurant. Their videos showed how easy they were to prepare and we steamed them in a large pot/strainer that we have on our backyard firepit. They are priced on the high side but being in Wisconsin, there is no other competitor who stocks oysters this large and fresh. We will purchase (and have) purchased more since then and in the future.

Wonderful!

I have been there and bought them straight from the farm and these were just as good. I wish they were larger!

Fresh oysters

Received the Damariscotti oysters fresh with no open shells. All were tasty with a slight briny follow. I would say they were smaller than advertised as were the previous order. Still excellent flavor and quality.

So sad! What a waste!

They were very small and impossible to shuck. We have shucked hundreds, so we know how to do it correctly. After only able to open a few of each dozen we gave up and threw them away. We're talking five dozen! What a waste! I correctly filled out the forms for each dozen ordered. I was told a representative would be in touch with me in seven days. It's been 3 weeks already. We will not order from them again. The crab cakes were very good!!!
