Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) is a seafood-specific certification program that addresses the four key areas of responsible seafood - environmental, social, food safety, and animal health & welfare - at each step of the aquaculture production chain. This third-party certification helps verify that seafood producers follow the best practices to deliver farmed seafood safely and responsibly.

The BAP program is the most comprehensive certification program for farmed seafood, with standards covering each step of the production chain. A "star" is awarded at each supply chain step based on BAP's Pillars of Responsibility. A product containing 4-stars demonstrates these pillars of responsibility at the processor, farm, hatchery, and feed mills. This ensures the consumer gets the safest and best quality seafood produced in aquaculture today.

The Four Pillars of Responsibility BAP uses to measure each step of the supply chain include...

  • Environmental Responsibility: Water quality, proper waste disposal, and ensuring marine habitats are protected.
